RE: IMAGINE SPACES
- Density that Matters - We, the Anthropocene by unprecedented means can evolve and shape the ecosystem using various tools and technology that are beyond the capacity of other organisms. Fears of having to share a space with multiple persons are impacting people’s attitudes toward living in a densely populated area. ‘Space’ now carries a new definition. Although there is no clear evidence that links population density to the recent spread of Covid-19, the pandemic can still radically and unexpectedly affect the built industry. If the fear of diseases become the new norm, Utopian ideas of future cities can indirectly become bland, antiseptic, and even dystopian. As we find ways to adjust to the new standard, an individual’s health and wellness become the heart of building design. While reflecting on the ideas of making hospitals ‘portable’ and creating a ‘retirement utopia’ for the ageing population, perhaps the idea of occupying a bigger area on 'land' instead of 'overcrowding' the population within the 'land' can shape our design decisions for the betterment of our future.
